Tesla is Coming to Austin!

OVERVIEW

Tech and automobile giant Tesla announced that Austin will be the home of its new “gigafactory” which will manufacture the Cybertrucks and Model Y cars. This will bring jobs, housing, and more to an otherwise underdeveloped part of Austin.

Area
Del Valle is a small suburb east of Austin. Unlike its suburban counterparts to the north, west, and south of the Austin Metro, Del Valle lacks infrastructure and commercial development.. The two most notable points of interest are Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and the Circuit of the Americas.

Proximity
Del Valle is about 6 miles from Austin as the crow flies, but is about 10 miles from downtown by car. With no traffic, the drive into town is usually short— about 10-15 minutes. Highway 71 takes drivers directly into Austin while SH 130 loops around to the east. I-35 and US 183 lie to the west.

Schools
The factory is built in the Del Valle Independent School District. The elementary schools in the district are Baty, Creedmoor, Del Valle, Joseph A Gilbert, Hillcrest, Hornsby-Dunlap, Newton Collins, Popham, and Smith. Kids then go to either Dailey, Del Valle, or Ojeda Middle Schools. Finally, student make their way to Del Valle High School.

Jobs
The gigafactory, which will be at SH 130 and Harold Green Road, is expected to bring in 5,000 jobs. About 65% of those jobs won’t require college degrees, leaving open opportunities for more people. It is projected that this one development will lead to the development of more commercial development, and thus, more jobs, housing, and economic growth.
