Pflugerville/Round Rock

OVERVIEW

Just north of the city of Austin are Pflugerville and Round Rock, two of the area’s most favorite suburbs!

 
 

Proximity
Interstate 35 cuts through the heart of both cities, making it easy to hop on and hop off this major thoroughfare. Loop 1 (Mopac) ends in Round Rock, where it connects to SH 45. SH 45 cuts across I-35 to connect to SH 130. A great non-toll option for the area is Highway 79.

Population
Round Rock’s population, as of November 2020, is estimated to be 119,380. People have been flocking to the area, with the population being just over 99,000 at the 2010 census.

The population of Pflugerville is estimated to be 65,380, as of July 2019. This has been another area of sharp growth, with 48,370 Texans calling this city home at the 2010 census.

Public Transportation
With the convenience of the MetroBus system at your disposal, you can traverse this public transportation friendly area with ease. In Round Rock, there is a park and ride at the Round Rock Transit Center. Pflugerville struck an agreement with CapMetro to launch a pilot transportation plan in October of 2020.

School System
Your little ones will flourish in the elementary system of these subs. Round Rock ISD, and Pflugerville ISD are the main districts, and include many schools.

Round Rock Elementary Schools include: Anderson Mill Elementary, Berkman Elementary, Blackland Prairie Elementary, more. RRISD Middle Schools include: C. D. Fulkes Middle School, Canyon Vista Middle School, more. High Schools include McNeil High School, Westwood High School, more.

Pflugerville ISD has 20 elementary schools. There are 6 middle schools, including Pflugerville Middle School. There are 4 high schools: Connally, Hendrickson, Pflugerville, and Weiss.

ART & CULTURE

Nightlife
Downtown Pflugerville has plenty to offer, from the iconic Mavericks Dance Hall to the other numerous clubs, bars, and lounges on Grand Avenue Parkway.

Historic downtown Round Rock also has much to offer when it comes to nightlife. From Rocky’ Piano Bar to the city’s Brass Tap location, there are plenty of places to whet your whistle, get together with friends, hear live music, and have a good time!

Shopping
Round Rock is known for its Premium Outlets. This outlet mall is huge, with 125 stores on 200 acres. With 430,000 square feet of retail space, you’re sure to find everything you need! It’s also home to one of the five IKEA stores in the state!

Both downtown Pflugerville and downtown Round Rock also have an abundance of boutiques and local shops.

Museums & Galleries
Round Rock has made it a point to grow its art and culture scene, including displaying 50 statues downtown at Chisholm Trail Park. If history is more your thing, check out the Palm House, the restored pioneer-era home of Swedish immigrants.

In Pflugerville, you can visit the Fallen Warrior Memorial to learn about the military history of the city’s residents.

Entertainment
We’d be remiss to not mention the Round Rock Express, our local professional baseball team! You can check out a game at the Dell Diamond in the spring.

There are also numerous live music venues and festivals throughout Pflugerville and Round Rock if you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind experience!

Food Scene
Much like Austin Proper, these suburbs have plenty offer by way of food. With the Interstate cutting right through, there are dozens of major chain restaurants and lively joints to stop in. If you’re looking for something more local, there are plenty of options! Check out this fantastic list from Culture Map of some local Round Rock fare. Pflugerville won’t disappoint, either. From the beloved West Pecan Coffee + Bar to the spots along Grand Avenue Parkway, you’re sure to find a new favorite!

Hotels
Fortunately, Pflugerville and Round Rock are right on the Interstate, so there are always plenty of stay options. If you’re looking for something more quaint or unique, try The Plantation House in Pflugerville or The Ruby Hotel and Bar in Round Rock.

From The Golf Driving Range to Teravista Golf Club, there are plenty of opportunities to get outside!
